In the spring and summer I wear a lot of sheath dresses to work see below. Would this work with my dresses? Any other suggestions are welcomed.

I am thinking a neutral color so as to go with the majority of my dresses would be best. I have a cropped black leather jacket I wear sometimes also, but would like some variety.

Don’t know if a bomber jacket would be appropriate for your workplace – but there are plenty of dressier, cropped, quilted versions around.

I’m pretty sure Angie did a post of wearing a bomber jacket over a sheath dress not long ago. I have this problem at work too, it is extremely hot outside and freezing at my workplace.

I tend to wear jackets over my sheath dresses regularly in summer. One of my favourites is the JCrew jacket in finds. I like the navy as a lighter colour to black and like the gold braiding and buttons which co-ordinate well with my gold shoes also in finds.

I also have a white linen blend jacket and a grey cropped jacket that are in heavy rotation over the summer months, all of which are similar in style to the JCrew jacket.

For me a shorter cropped jacket works best with dresses.

Thanks ladies. I have one silky bomber style jacket from forever 21 that is black and white floral print that I wear with the white and black sheath dresses.

I actually love it, but am limited in what it goes with. I will continue my search, if the bomber jacket is sufficiently dressy enough it will def work for my environment.

I still struggle with incorporating my St. John jackets becuse they have shiny metallic threads, zips and buttons rather than tweed, which is more currentbut the fit and crop are sublime and the original price too expensive to cull even though I bought all on sale.

I always look for these in consignment shops, too–although I confess no luck as of yet. But just a thought, with encouragement to break up your suits.

I, too, am interested in breathable cropped toppers, still in a hot phase, so I need some natural fibers so I will follow this thread.

For summer, a kimono style jacket can work over a sheath dress and give you some variety. Also look for lace jackets. Mine are all too old to be in stores now, but you may find something similar.

Look at Angie’s kimono picks. Maybe I am a little too norm-core, but I love cardigans over sheath dresses. I wear print cardigans over solid dresses and vice versa.

Long or cropped, depends on my mood. Statement necklace and done.

PS–I love cropped cardigans over sheath dresses, too, in case my post suggested otherwise. They lenghten the leg line and can be both powerful and ladylike, IMHO.

I also love the idea of mixing solids with prints; the effect is always visually pleasing.

Traci I like your suggestion! Love the lighter color. Need to see if my Nord has it. Joy I have been looking at Kimono style. One was not sufficiently warm enough but gorgeous see below and the other one black with red seemed “just” warm enough.

Thanks Column but denim jackets are too casual for my employer. As for the cropped cardi, “been there – done that” years ago and now I hate them.

I did get to try on the AT jacket today and it looks, fits and feels fantastic. I hesitated because I think it may be a tad too long for my liking.

I am short waisted and it didn’t seem cropped enough to me.

I agree that cardigans work best when they are either cropped or long and drapey. What to wear over a black sheath dress Big Dipper, I think that your first suggestion might be part of the issue. In fact, we’d argue that having just one LBD is probably not enough.

But I am keeping it in mind. The neutral color and fabric is absolutely perfect for my dresses. Sorry if you addressed this and I missed it, but did you try a petite size in the AT blazer?

However, I felt the size 4 in regular was actually a perfect fit. I usually size down to petites for dresses or skirts – when I want a shorter length.

I usually can’t do petits in tops due to my chest area, even though I have small shoulders and am apparently short waisted. I will keep this suggestion in the back of my mind in the future though.
